You know, I can't even imagine what a work day must have been like for Joe Simon and Jack Kirby. Think about it--you had two brilliant creators honing their respective crafts while laying the groundwork for what comic storytelling would become. The thought of how dynamic that relationship was, in that time and place, brings me a lot of joy. To be a fly on the wall...
From what I understand, Joe was a great man. His passing, sadly, marks the severance of another tie to comics' infancy, the halcyon days of such great creativity that its resultant characters survive to this day.
The time, and the man, will certainly be missed.
