This is an amazing, first-peek pinup preview of the art Andy Scordellis has created for our forthcoming FutureQuake strip "Butch Stone: Replacement Hero."I first wrote the script a year ago, and it was accepted by Dave Evans over at FQ just last month. I reread it, still thought it was good, then didn't give it much consideration. That is, until, I saw Andy's thumbnail sketches (which I'll try to preview at a later date). Even as thumbnails, Andy's art has this raw energy to it, very fluid, action-packed, and alive. He has that Silver Age exuberance in filling each panel to brim, and it works perfectly for Butch Stone. I immediately decided to go back and rework the script. The end result is something way more over the top than I first imagined, with more tongue-in-cheek references, and more humor. And, it's a better script.
Since then, Andy and I have been going back and forth, bouncing ideas off each other. We both seeing Butch, along with his scientist partner, Talbot, engaging in more batshit ridiculous adventures; we both envision Silver Age homages, and pop-culture/historical references. But for now, we have this first strip to complete (which is also being previewed on the FutureQuake blog)--and more oddball ideas involving Antarctica and Nikola Tesla to flesh out.
