'Wolf Like Me' Preview

A few months ago I previewed some of Alex Willmore's sketches for 'Wolf Like Me', the short that is forthcoming in Accent UK's Victoriana anthology. Alex has gotten down the feel of the Victorian period really well, and Lauren's inks add to the ghoulish milieu of the time.

The anthology won't be published for some time yet; Accent UK will first release their Predators anthology, which I believe is due out soon. Until then, I may throw up another page or two as previews (maybe one with letters), so stay tuned.

Chicago Comic-Con

In today's edition, I share my thoughts on the weekend's con over at the Insomnia blog. In it, I describe meeting Admiral Adama, why creators may soon find themselves in the con's parking lot, and one of the best graphic novels I've read in a while (hint: the film version, starring Bruce Willis, is coming out next month).

Fall Course at the Newberry Library

This fall, I'll be teaching a course at the Newberry Library on graphic novels. We'll be studying Watchmen, Y: The Last Man, The Dark Knight Returns, and other titles. It's a six-week course, from mid-October until mid-November. Registration is open to the entire public. Here's the information directly from the Newberry site:

"Comics, or graphic novels, are the topic of many scholarly studies and a myriad of blockbuster films. Yet many Americans consider comic books a lower form of culture, not an art form. This course will challenge that idea by demonstrating comic book authors’ abilities to examine characters and to critique society in ways that are novelistic in scope and depth. We will read Alan Moore’s Watchmen and Brian K. Vaughn’s Y: The Last Man, among others."
